Description:

The 1953 Chris-Craft Holiday is a refined mid-century American runabout that blends family practicality with elegant post-war styling. Produced by Chris-Craft during the brand's golden era, the Holiday series was designed as a stylish yet accessible alternative to the more elaborate Custom models.

With its graceful sheerline, flared bow, and signature tumblehome stern, the 1953 Holiday reflects the clean, automotive-influenced aesthetics of early 1950s America. The varnished mahogany hull, chrome deck fittings, and balanced cockpit proportions give the boat a warm, timeless presence on the water.

Our workshop faithfully recreates this historic design using premium marine materials-including Western Red Cedar, Mahogany, Teak, and U.S.-made Hexcel fiberglass-sealed with System Three marine spar varnish. Each vessel is handcrafted using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method, requiring approximately 4-5 months of meticulous craftsmanship. Every classic detail-from king plank decking to period-correct instrumentation-is carefully preserved.

Clients may customize wood selection, upholstery, deck finish, helm configuration, and engine installation while maintaining the authentic character of the original 1953 model.

Performance & Use

Originally powered in the 95-120 HP range, the 1953 Holiday delivered smooth planing performance suitable for cruising and light watersports. The stable hull and generous cockpit made it ideal for family lake outings and relaxed coastal use.

Ideal for: family lake cruising, classic boat events and shows, private collections, elegant weekend leisure boating.

Today, the 1953 Chris-Craft Holiday is valued as a classic representation of post-war American leisure boating-combining craftsmanship, understated elegance, and dependable performance in a timeless wooden runabout.

History:

The 1953 Chris-Craft Holiday was produced during the height of America's post-war recreational boating boom. Built by Chris-Craft, the Holiday series was introduced as a stylish yet slightly more accessible alternative to the company's higher-end Custom models. By 1953, the Holiday had become one of the brand's core family runabouts.

Offered primarily in the 18- and 20-foot range, the 1953 Holiday featured traditional mahogany plank-on-frame construction, a double-planked bottom, and dependable inline 6-cylinder inboard power. The design reflected early 1950s automotive influence, with clean hull lines, a gently flared bow, chrome deck fittings, and a balanced open cockpit layout designed for social cruising.

The model appealed to middle- and upper-class American families seeking a versatile boat for lake outings, light watersports, and weekend leisure. It combined elegance with practicality-less ornate than pre-war luxury runabouts, yet unmistakably refined.

Today, the 1953 Chris-Craft Holiday is regarded as a representative example of Chris-Craft's golden-era craftsmanship. It stands as a symbol of 1950s American optimism, when wooden runabouts defined recreational boating culture across the United States.
