The Carryme is a 9-foot wooden dinghy designed by William Atkin as a practical, lightweight solution for sailors needing a reliable tender that’s easy to carry, tow, and store. Atkin designed Carryme in response to a common complaint among boaters—that most small dinks are either too heavy, too unstable, or too cumbersome on deck. His answer was this smart, flat-bottom design: strong, simple, and efficient, yet remarkably seaworthy for its size.

Our factory faithfully recreates the Carryme using premium materials such as Western Red Cedar, Teak, Mahogany, and US -made Hexcel fiberglass with System Three marine spar varnish. Each model is hand-built using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method, requiring 4–5 months of detailed craftsmanship. Customers may fully customize the boat—adjusting size, finish, and interior features to their preference.

Carryme measures 9 feet in length. The design emphasizes simplicity and function—reducing unnecessary structure while maintaining strength and balance. Her modest flare and ample freeboard ensure dry, comfortable rowing even in choppy water. Compact yet sturdy, she easily accommodates two people, or three with safety to spare.

This well-balanced little skiff rows smoothly and tows beautifully, making it ideal as a tender or utility boat for larger vessels. With its classic lines, light weight, and timeless Atkin design, the Carryme embodies the perfect blend of practicality, craftsmanship, and traditional maritime charm.

Every wooden boat crafted by us is built from Atkin plans, with full credit given to the original designers. For each custom commission, we acquire the appropriate plans and construct the boat to order—offering both full-size vessels and finely detailed scale models.

History:

Carryme, a 9-foot flat-bottom skiff by William Atkin, was designed in response to the common complaint that most dinghies are heavy, awkward, and troublesome to carry on deck. Atkin addressed these issues by minimizing scantling weight and stripping the construction down to only what was essential, resulting in a skiff of about 80 pounds—light for her size yet still strong and practical.

With proper flare to avoid the crankiness and wetness typical of many flat-bottom dinks, Carryme offers a stable, easy-rowing, well-towing tender with enough capacity for two and room for a third.

Her balanced proportions, comfortable freeboard, and manageable depth make her a highly serviceable small craft that stays out of the way onboard while delivering reliable performance on the water.
