Description:
USNS Montford Point (T-ESD-1) was the first expeditionary transfer dock developed to support large-scale logistics and amphibious operations for the United States Navy. Designed as a mobile sea base platform, the vessel plays a critical role in transferring vehicles, cargo, and equipment at sea.
This 30-inch handcrafted model is meticulously built using the traditional plank-on-frame method and premium-grade woods, including Western Red Cedar, Teak, and Mahogany. Every detail, from the expansive operational deck and superstructure to the mission support systems and structural layout, is carefully recreated by skilled craftsmen to capture the authentic appearance of the original vessel.
One of the defining features of the Expeditionary Transfer Dock class is its semi-submersible mission platform designed to support cargo transfer operations between large transport ships and landing craft. Its highly specialized operational design gives USNS Montford Point a distinctive and modern naval profile.
Completion typically takes 3 to 6 months, depending on the design complexity and selected materials.

History:
USNS Montford Point (T-ESD-1) entered service with the United States Navy in 2013 as the first vessel of the Expeditionary Transfer Dock class. The ship was named in honor of the Montford Point Marines, the first African Americans to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Developed to support sea-based logistics operations, the vessel allows equipment and cargo transfers between transport ships and landing craft without requiring port facilities. USNS Montford Point introduced a new level of operational flexibility for expeditionary missions.
