History:
USS Bainbridge (DLGN-25) was commissioned into the United States Navy in 1962 as one of the world's first nuclear-powered guided missile cruisers. Named after Commodore William Bainbridge, the vessel was developed during the Cold War to provide high-endurance fleet escort and missile defense capabilities.
The cruiser participated in numerous international deployments and became well known for its role in Operation Sea Orbit, the first around-the-world voyage completed entirely by nuclear-powered naval vessels. USS Bainbridge remained an important part of the U.S. fleet until its decommissioning in 1996
