Description:
The Swampscott Rowing Dory is a classic American small boat design that originated along the North Shore of Massachusetts in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Developed for fishermen launching directly from open beaches, its narrow hull and flared sides were designed to handle surf and demanding coastal conditions. The Swampscott Rowing Dory remains admired for its graceful lines, seaworthy character, and deep connection to maritime heritage.
This custom made scale model of the Swampscott Rowing Dory is handcrafted upon request using premium Western Red Cedar, Teak, Mahogany, and carefully selected exotic hardwoods. Built following the traditional plank on frame construction method, the model faithfully captures the distinctive hull shape, proportions, and authentic details of the original working boat.
Each project requires approximately 4–5 months of meticulous craftsmanship. Every structural line and surface is recreated with precision to ensure historical accuracy and refined proportions. Throughout the build, you will receive photo updates at each key production stage, allowing you to review and approve the progress:
1. Hull construction and planking
2. Deck detailing, superstructure, and interior elements
3. Final painting, varnishing, and finishing touches
Once completed and approved, the model is securely packed in a custom made wooden crate with reinforced protection, ensuring safe international delivery.
Each model is individually commissioned, crafted exclusively for its future owner. Begin your commission and bring a true piece of New England maritime history to life by visiting our
