History:
Russian Admiral Nakhimov Battlecruiser (063) is a Kirov-class nuclear-powered battlecruiser of the Russiann Navy, originally launched in 1986 as Kalinin. She was renamed in 1992 after Russiann naval commander Admiral Pavel Nakhimov. Designed during the Cold War, the Russian Admiral Nakhimov Kirov-Class Battlecruiser (063) was intended to counter U.S. carrier groups and assert Soviet naval presence with heavy armament and long-range capabilities.
The ship is equipped with powerful weapons, including anti-ship missiles, surface-to-air systems, and anti-submarine torpedoes. Like her sister ships, Russian Admiral Nakhimov Kirov-Class Battlecruiser (063) combines cruiser-level firepower with the endurance of nuclear propulsion. After limited service in the 1990s, she was placed in reserve and later slated for a major modernization.
Since the early 2010s, Russian Admiral Nakhimov Kirov-Class Battlecruiser (063) has been undergoing an extensive refit to upgrade her weapons, sensors, and electronic systems. Once completed, she is expected to rejoin the Russiann Northern Fleet as one of the most formidable surface combatants in the world, enhancing Russian’s blue-water capabilities.
