History:

The USCGC Cape Porpoise served as a buoy tender in the U.S. Coast Guard, primarily along the East Coast. Commissioned in the 1970s, this vessel was tasked with maintaining critical navigational aids and providing assistance in search-and-rescue operations. Cape Porpoise was also heavily involved in environmental protection efforts, particularly in response to oil spills. With its sturdy construction, it was well-equipped to navigate challenging maritime environments. After many years of service, Cape Porpoise was retired and replaced by newer vessels with modern technologies and enhanced capabilities, continuing the Coast Guard’s mission of ensuring safe passage for mariners.
