History:
Commissioned in 2004, the USCGC Hollyhock (WLB-214) is a Juniper-class buoy tender stationed in Port Huron, Michigan, serving the Great Lakes region. As part of its duties, the Hollyhock maintains navigational aids, performs search-and-rescue operations, and responds to oil spills, ensuring safe and efficient shipping lanes throughout the lakes.
With its ice-strengthened hull and Dynamic Positioning System, the Hollyhock can perform its tasks with precision even under harsh winter conditions. It is also involved in environmental protection efforts, cleaning up pollutants and conducting marine debris removal. The vessel’s ability to operate in various conditions, from calm waters to ice-filled regions, has proven essential to keeping maritime traffic safe in the Great Lakes region, and it remains an integral asset to the Coast Guard's fleet.
