Description:

The Edmund Fitzgerald model is a remarkable tribute to one of the most iconic ships in maritime history. The SS Edmund Fitzgerald was a massive freighter that tragically sank during a storm on Lake Superior in 1975, claiming the lives of all 29 crew members. This Edmund Fitzgerald model ship honors the strength, resilience, and enduring legacy of this legendary vessel.

Meticulously handcrafted with exceptional attention to detail, this Edmund Fitzgerald ship model measures 42 inches in length and is built using high-quality materials for durability and a stunningly realistic finish. Every element—from the massive hull to the towering superstructure—has been carefully reproduced to capture the true essence of the ship. The bold red hull highlights its dominance on the Great Lakes, while the intricate details showcase its maritime elegance.

Mounted on a hand-finished wood base, this model Edmund Fitzgerald makes an impressive addition to any maritime collection or display. It is perfect for collectors, history enthusiasts, or anyone captivated by Great Lakes shipping history. Whether as a centerpiece or a meaningful gift, this Edmund Fitzgerald model for sale stands as a lasting tribute to one of the Great Lakes' most famous vessel.

History:

The SS Edmund Fitzgerald was launched on June 7, 1958, and quickly earned fame as the largest ship on North America’s Great Lakes at the time. Measuring 729 feet in length, the vessel was renowned for its immense size and record-breaking cargo capacity. Throughout its career, the Edmund Fitzgerald ship model of reliability was transporting iron ore from Duluth, Minnesota, to ports such as Detroit and Toledo. The ship became a beloved icon of the Great Lakes, often remembered for its charismatic captain who entertained passengers and crew with music and commentary during voyages.

After 17 years of service, tragedy struck. On November 10, 1975, the Edmund Fitzgerald encountered a powerful storm on Lake Superior with near-hurricane-force winds and waves as high as 35 feet. Despite a final report that it was "holding her own," the vessel suddenly disappeared from radar without sending a distress call. When the wreckage was later discovered, the ship was found broken in two on the lakebed. All 29 crew members perished, and the exact cause of the sinking remains a mystery.

The sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald is one of the most devastating maritime disasters in Great Lakes history. Immortalized by Gordon Lightfoot’s haunting ballad, “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald”, the tragedy left a lasting mark on maritime culture. In its aftermath, new safety measures were introduced on the Great Lakes, including stricter ship inspections, improved communication systems, and the mandatory use of survival suits.

Today, collectors keep the memory alive with the Edmund Fitzgerald model ship, a finely crafted tribute that honors the vessel’s enduring legacy. Whether you’re searching for a model Edmund Fitzgerald, an Edmund Fitzgerald ship model, or an Edmund Fitzgerald model for sale, this ship remains a timeless symbol of maritime history and craftsmanship!
