Description:
This is a great model of the Seguin tugboat. It was all handmade by strips of mahogany and teak. All built plank on frame. Look at all the amazing details on the windows and deck area. All the little pieces of wood are glued together in a tremendous amount of time. The masts the smoke stack and the lower portion of the hull are painted in the original colors. It has a shiny finish that makes this model look very beautiful. The craftsmen must have spent over a hundred hours with this.
The Seguin Ship Model is a meticulously handcrafted wooden replica of the classic steam-powered vessel. The model showcases a beautiful contrast between rich, natural wood tones and black accents along the hull. The structure features precise detailing, with two large masts extending from the deck, adorned with rigging that hints at the ship's versatile functionality.
The deck is adorned with cabin spaces, including a prominent yellow-trimmed bridge area with large, detailed windows, reflecting the ship's history of piloting and navigation. The prominent smokestack in the center of the ship captures its steam-powered legacy. The model is an excellent addition to any maritime collection, mounted on a sleek wooden display stand with a brass nameplate. The attention to detail is evident in every aspect, from the lifeboats and railings to the finely crafted windows and doors.
Perfect for display in a spacious room, this ship seguin model is a tribute to nautical craftsmanship, capturing both the elegance and functionality of the original Seguin ship.
History:
The Seguin Tugboat, launched in Maine in 1884 and named after Seguin Island, was once the nation's oldest steam-powered tugboat. She spent 20 years towing wooden sailing ships along the Kennebec River and pulling cargo barges along the Atlantic coast. In the early 1900s, she moved to New York Harbor, where she guided vessels through one of the world's busiest ports before eventually returning to Maine.
After serving for decades, Seguin retired in 1967. Despite restoration efforts by the Maine Maritime Museum, severe hull rot made her beyond saving, and she was sadly scrapped. Her legacy endures through model replicas like this one, preserving her historical significance in maritime history.
