Description:
Double trouble is the name of the game with this 1940s U.S. Twin-Engine Fighter Plane, handcrafted from iron. This model was based on twin-engine fighter-bomber planes used during WWII by the US Army Air Corps. At 13.5 inches long and 18.25 inches wide, it features nose mounted guns, twin rotating props, and tricycle rotating landing gears. A doubly daring décor piece for the collector and enthusiast.
History:
Twin-engine heavy fighters were an innovation that emerged out of the pre-WWII period. Their design was meant to allow for greater internal fuel capacity, longer range, and heavier armament. Intended as long-range escort fighters and bomber destroyers, they were often outclassed however by more agile single-engine fighters. Many twin-engine heavy fighters were repurposed as night fighters, often equipped with primitive radar systems.
