Description:

This Bretagne is a famous flagship of the Brest Fleet during the American War of Independence. It was a large 110-gun three decker and was built in Brest. During the French Revolution she was renamed Révolutionnaire. This is an "Exclusive Edition" where the model has a unique serial number etched into the hull, which allows us to identify production date, material used and all other production information of a model.

Master craftsmen using historical photographs, drawings or original plans meticulously handcraft these highly detailed wood models from scratch. They are built to scale with high-grade wood such as: western red cedar, rosewood, and mahogany. They are 100% hand built individually using plank-on-frame construction method and are similar to the building of actual ships. Each model requires hundreds of hours to finish and must go through a demanding quality control process before leaving the workshop.

This beautiful Bretagne model features plank on frame, three decks, and three rows of ferocious cannons on each side of the hull. It has a unique bowsprit design that consists of metal statue and side railings. The front bowsprit and three large masts are connected securely using advanced rigging and lines painstakingly knotted and fastened by hand. Each yard has an attached hand-stitched unfurled sails made of fine linen. Metal anchors and a wooden rudder are visible on the front and rear of the ship. On the deck, there are metal stationed cannons, authentic hand-built lifeboats with ribs and planks, wooden windlass, wooden cabin, wooden bell tower, metal steering wheel, and many other spectacular ornaments. There is also an exquisite detailed admiral's quarter on the stern with beautiful handcrafted brass statues and ornaments.

This model comes standard with a solid wood base and brass nameplate. It'll make a perfect gift for home or office decorator, boat enthusiast or passionate collector.

This is a special made to order item, delivery time usually takes 60-90 days.

History:

The Bretagne was a large 110-gun three-decker French ship of the line, built at Brest, which became famous as the flagship of the Brest Fleet during the American War of Independence. She fought at the Battle of Ushant in 1778 as flagship of the Comte dOrvilliers. During the French Revolution she was renamed Révolutionnaire. In May 1794 she fought in the skirmishes before the Battle of the Glorious First of June, dropping to the rear of the French fleet to drive off the pursuing British ships. In action against five or six 74-gun ships she was badly damaged, lost all her masts, and was only saved from capture by confusion among her opponents. She was towed to Rochefort by the battleship Audacieux and escorted by the corvette Unité. She took part in the Croisière du Grand Hiver, where she was very heavily damaged. Too damaged by the battle to be repaired, she was broken up between January and May 1796. A scale model of Bretagne is on display at Brest naval museum.
