Description:
This is a stunning replica of the Drakkar viking boat, a classic boat used by the Viking between 7th & 10th century. It looks and feels like a miniature real boat.
This 15-inch model is handcrafted with the highest quality woods from scratch by master artisans using “plank on frame” construction, just like real boats. Each model takes more than 50 hours to construct and undergoes a demanding quality-control process. Among the details of this boat model: visible planking hull, lines of gold shields along 2 sides of boats, 2 set of wooden oars, detailed stitched sail, metal dragon head, brass nameplate and stand.
History:
The Drakkar, or Viking Longships, were the long, narrow and very flexible vessels used by the Vikings for trade, exploration, and warfare. The Longships had symmetrical ends and a maximal speed of around 15 knots, and they were also called "dragonships" because they often had a dragon-shaped bow or other magical beings carved on it. The Longships had been the symbol of the Vikings naval power for a long time, ranging in the North and Baltic Sea and even far from their Scandinavian homelands: to Iceland, Greenland, Northern America and the Mediterranean!

Comment: I used this ship to send some of my husbands ashes “out to sea” and set it on fire on the lake we live on as he always said he wanted to go out like a Viking. It worked well. His service was wonderful.

Comment: Boy these real looking ships are well worth the cost. Bit expensive but if someone’s serious about starting a collection these are very detail oriented and my 50’s yr. Old son will be very surprised. He only had one large one for years n years he got at a sale for like 5-10. He never realized what a terrific deal he got when he purchased his. I ordered two more. Bit of a splurge but he’ll get many years of enjoyment from them n what a conversation piece they’ll be.

Comment: This is a beautiful model. It is very well made. Beautiful materials. It is a little smaller than I anticipated. The sail was also not as well done as hoped. The sail strings need some minor adjusting to get the sail to open properly, but no biggy. Overall, we were very pleased with it.

Comment: I own three of the larger ships from Old Modern Handicraft (Victory, Esprit and Royal Louis) as well as a smaller model of Normandie. Very pleased with them all. This is a much smaller model but quite nice and well-made example of a Viking ship of its era
